“All life demands struggle. Those who have everything given to them become lazy, selfish, and insensitive to the real values of life. The very striving and hard work that we so constantly try to avoid is the major building block in the person we are today.”
Today we had a chat about struggles. I talked to the students about how even sometimes adults like me take the easy way out when things get tough. In social studies this week, the students are struggling through an independent research project and when it got tough, some wanted to throw in the towel. But we read this quote, and talked about how yes, it's hard, but yes, we can do it! I'll keep reminding them that I may push them sometimes, but it's because I have faith in their abilities! Remind them of this, too :)

In General:
- Early release this Friday! Please make ride arrangements before Friday so we can cut down on confusion. - Speaking of Friday, we have MULTIPLE permission forms coming home Tuesday that will be due Wednesday: the WCPSS technology release form, a permission slip for your student to watch The Blindside (a film with a rating of PG-13 we will be viewing Friday as part of our "Life is Not Fair" LA unit), and a WCPSS military connection form. ALL of these forms need to be signed and returned immediately. - Tryouts for sports teams (volleyball, cheer, football and soccer) will occur over our track out. As a coach, I can't tell you how important it is for you to understand that ECMS sports are track-blind, meaning your student-athlete must be at all practices and games even when they are tracked out. This of course includes tryouts! Don't forget to have a current physical turned in as well. See https://ecmsathletics.wordpress.com/ for more information. In class: Science- Motion unit test on Thursday. Also, students should be working on their Inventor's Fair Project and recording their logs as directed! Math- Decimal quiz tomorrow (Tuesday). LA- creating our Google Accounts (!!) in the lab today. Vocab quiz tomorrow, and short story stuff the rest of the week (see Weebly for day-to-day breakdown). SS- In the lab all week for the Jamestown Project. Again, see Weebly for the project guidelines and links. |
